| Icelandic massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) EVE Online by CCP was this week named the best game of 2009 by the website mmorpg.com, one of the largest gaming websites in the world. Thousands of players from all around the world play EVE Online at the same time in a virtual reality on the internet. The world's largest MMORPG is World of Warcraft, which placed second in mmorpg.com's selection. Pétursson said EVE Online's achievement is noteworthy considering that the game was released in 2003. "There were some new and fresh games published last year. It is very pleasing that we are beating them." Since the game was first launched, CCP's goal has been to have the number of EVE Online players exceed the number of Icelanders. That goal has now been achieved; subscribers are now 330,000-10,000 more than the entire population of Iceland. |
